Well it's here, the Steam Community Beta is in full swing and let me tell you it's a system that is showing a ton of promise. Currently it's somewhere in the beta stages but the Steam Community has a boat load of features that will make your relationship with fellow warriors feel more like a true community of gamers. It doesn't matter what game you enjoy playing on the Steam network, with it's new features you can communicate with anyone on Steam in any game you have setup to run through steam.
Now you might be asking yourself any game I have running through Steam? Well let me fill you in Steam now allows you to add third party games (example: guild wars) ->
What your looking at to the right (top image) is an image of the overlay that Steam places over your games interface making you fully accessible to anyone on Steam, including your voice chat, and full community features.
This next screenshot shows you what your user profile looks like. Next to where you see the picture of my head (top pic in profile image), gives a brief introduction to who I am and what I'm up to, along with my avatar (me). The second picture on the profile is the primary group you're associated with, mine of course is the MappersNation group. Below your primary group is all your sub-groups.
The bottom of the page shows what your favorite game is to play (you select it) and how often in the past week you've played it (total hours).
So with all that said the new community has a boat load of potential and already has showed what it's capable of. If you're interested in joining the beta test follow this link and it'll give you detailed instructions on how to participate.
Valve made an announcement just letting everyone know what's happening with the new Steam community.
Last month, we announced the Steam Community, which will let you connect with friends and other gamers, create and join groups, and organize matches. We're adding the final polish now and are right on target to launch the beta version at the end of the month. More details on the way.
Beginning in July, Steam users can set up their own personal Steam pages and profiles, create and join groups, schedule games with friends, review who they've played with, see how well everyone played, chat with groups, chat via voice, and more. These new community services and features can be used with all Steam games, which include new releases and classic titles from leading publishers and independent developers.
Free of charge, the new community features will be accessible via the Steam desktop client and via the web.
